Accra Metropolitan Assembly Revolutionizes Revenue Collection with Centralized Digital Platform

In a groundbreaking move to modernize revenue collection, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has introduced a Centralized Digital Service and Payment Platform. This innovative system allows ratepayers to make payments seamlessly from their homes, shops, or any location, signifying a major shift from the outdated and inefficient manual processes previously in place.

Mayor Elisabeth Sackey of Accra expressed her enthusiasm for the new system, highlighting its potential to transform the AMA’s operations and enhance market modernization and other development projects within the metropolis. "Upon taking office, I noticed a pervasive mistrust among traders towards the manual revenue collection methods, leading to reluctance in making payments. By transitioning to a cashless system, we are directly addressing these concerns. Following a successful pilot and extensive sensitization efforts, I am delighted to see the traders embracing this new approach."

Noble Atsu Ahadzi, the Head of Budget at the AMA, elaborated on the significant benefits brought about by the new platform. "The manual distribution of bills and revenue mobilization was riddled with challenges. Our partnership with a third party to digitize these processes has introduced a much-needed level of efficiency. Now, ratepayers can conveniently make payments from their homes, reducing both costs and inconveniences," he noted.

Ahadzi further explained that the new system facilitates real-time payment monitoring and simplifies the identification of defaulters. "By dialing 222323#, ratepayers can make payments and instantly print receipts and business certificates, thereby eliminating the need to visit AMA offices. This unprecedented level of convenience and transparency is a game-changer for our operations."

The platform has already received positive feedback from traders in Okaishie, located in Accra’s Central Business District, who participated in the pilot phase. Sylvia Dzoboku of SYLTTEQ commended the system's convenience. "In the past, we had to wait for bills to be delivered before we could make payments. Now, we receive notifications directly on our phones, which is much more secure and convenient. We can easily show proof of payment at any time."

The AMA’s initiative represents a significant stride towards embracing digital transformation, improving efficiency, and fostering trust among the trading community. This modernized approach is set to streamline revenue collection, support market modernization, and propel the city towards a more prosperous future.
