A civil lawsuit alleging that Shawn Jay-Z Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in 2000 has been voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff. The accuser, identified as Jane Doe, withdrew the case with prejudice, preventing any future refiling of the same claims.
The lawsuit, initially filed against Combs in October 2023 and later amended to include Jay-Z in December, accused the two music moguls of drugging and raping the plaintiff at an after-party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Both defendants vehemently denied the allegations.
Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, described the lawsuit as “frivolous” and “fictitious,” emphasizing that it “never should have been brought.” Jay-Z expressed relief at the dismissal, stating that the allegations had caused significant distress to his family.
The plaintiff’s credibility came into question following a December 2023 interview in which she acknowledged inconsistencies in her account and admitted to possible misidentification. These revelations led to increased scrutiny of the claims and ultimately contributed to the case’s dismissal.
While Jay-Z has been cleared of these allegations, Sean Combs continues to face multiple legal challenges. He is currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, awaiting a May 5, 2025, trial on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges. Combs has pleaded not guilty to these charges and maintains his innocence.
This development highlights the complexities and potential repercussions of high-profile legal battles involving prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
