Black Stars May Play Home Games Abroad as CAF Declares Baba Yara Stadium Unfit

The Black Stars could be forced to play their home games outside Ghana after CAF declared the Baba Yara Sports Stadium unfit for Category 3 international matches. This decision comes after widespread criticism of the stadium's poor pitch condition during Ghana's recent 1-0 loss to Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. With just a month until their next qualifier against Sudan, CAF has withdrawn approval for the stadium.


While CAF had conditionally approved Baba Yara Stadium for the Angola match, it has now ruled that the venue does not meet the necessary standards. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that CAF has requested them to find an alternative venue outside Ghana for the Sudan game, as no other stadium in the country meets the required Category 3 standards. CAF also recommended that all major stadiums in Ghana be assessed to ensure compliance with its technical standards and urged immediate renovations by experienced contractors.

The Black Stars currently sit third in Group F of the AFCON qualifiers ahead of their double-header against Sudan in October.
