Ghanaian footballer and Hatayspor winger, Christian Atsu, has been found dead under the rubble of his home in the aftermath of the magnitude 7.8 quake which rocked Turkey on the 6th of February 2023.
Earlier reports following the quake suggested that he had been found with injuries, a position which was later confirmed an uncertainty.
Almost 12 days after the quake, his Agent Nana Sechere who has been on the grounds in the Hatay province and calling for efforts to rescue the player has confirmed that the body of Christian Atsu, 31, has been recovered lifeless.
His move to Hatayspor came in September 2022 after a season with Saudi Arabian team Al-Raed where he scored the winning goal in a Super Lig match on 5 February.
He won 65 caps for Ghana and helped his country reach the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final where they lost to Ivory Coast on penalties and was later named player of the tournament.
In 2013 he joined Chelsea from Porto and had several loan spells at clubs including Everton and Bournemouth.
Heartfelt messages have been pouring from football lovers all over the world since the news of his demise broke out.
Our condolences to the entire Atsu family and may his soul Rest In Peace.
