In a recent interview on 3Music TV's Big Conversation, Dr. Chris Aminarh underscored the critical importance of first aid knowledge in Ghana. The discussion, broadcast on the Culture Daily show, focused on the need for immediate and effective first aid response in emergencies, from traffic accidents to domestic injuries.
Dr. Aminarh emphasized the lack of widespread knowledge about basic first aid procedures and the scarcity of emergency services. He highlighted scenarios where immediate first aid could prevent fatalities, such as correctly handling severe burns or stabilizing accident victims before moving them. He also addressed common misconceptions, such as the detrimental practice of moving injured persons without proper stabilization, which can exacerbate injuries.
The interview showcased practical steps for various first aid situations, including the recovery position for unconscious but breathing individuals and the critical ABCs of first aid: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. Dr. Aminarh also discussed the concept of heartbreak syndrome, a medical condition that mimics heart attack symptoms due to severe emotional stress, highlighting the broad scope of first aid knowledge.
The campaign aims to encourage Ghanaians to familiarize themselves with basic first aid techniques and emergency numbers, particularly the newly implemented universal emergency number, 112. This initiative is expected to significantly improve emergency response outcomes across the country.
