French First Lady Brigitte Macron has made a surprise appearance in the latest season of the Netflix hit series EMILY IN PARIS. The 71-year-old wife of President Emmanuel Macron plays herself in a brief scene where she takes a selfie with the show's protagonist, Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins.

The cameo was arranged after Collins and the show's creator, Darren Star, met Macron at the Élysée Palace in December 2022. Macron has been a fan of the show and had previously been mentioned in season one, where Emily shares her Instagram post expressing disappointment that the French word for vagina, "le vagin", is masculine.

Macron took the mention in stride, showing her sense of humor about it. The scene shows Emily approaching Macron in a restaurant and asking for a selfie, which Macron agrees to after waving away her security guard.
The moment is a lighthearted wink at the show's fans, according to Collins. Macron's appearance has been well-received, with Star praising her "great talent".

The show has previously faced criticism for its stereotypical portrayal of Paris, but Macron's cameo has been seen as an endorsement of the series. Interestingly, Macron has some background in drama, having taught the subject at a secondary school where she first met her future husband, Emmanuel Macron, in 1993.

She has also made a brief appearance in another French comedy series, VESTIAIRES . in 2018. A six-part series about her life is currently in production. Despite some negative reviews, EMILY IN PARIS remains a popular show, with its latest season attracting attention for its "jaw-dropping finale".

The show's creator, Darren Star, has defended the series, saying it's intended to be a "love letter to Paris", seen through the eyes of Emily. While some have criticized the show's portrayal of Paris as unrealistic, others have praised its lighthearted and entertaining take on the city.
