Frontline workers battling the mpox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are facing severe shortages of essential supplies and a growing sense of demotivation, according to reports from a treatment center in South Kivu, the world's worst-affected region.

The outbreak, which has placed immense strain on the country’s already fragile healthcare system, is worsening due to dwindling resources. Health workers in South Kivu, where the outbreak is most severe, report a critical lack of medical supplies, including personal protective equipment, medications, and diagnostic tools. The dire conditions have left many healthcare providers feeling overwhelmed and unsupported in their efforts to control the spread of the virus.

In a recent report from South Kivu, journalist Simi highlighted the urgent needs on the ground.

The situation has raised alarms among global health organizations, prompting calls for immediate international assistance to bolster the response efforts in the DRC. As the outbreak continues to spread, the resilience and dedication of these frontline workers are crucial, but without adequate support, the crisis could escalate further.
