According to government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Attorney-General of Ghana, Dominic Ayine is expected to have high-level bilateral talks with representatives of the US Department of Justice to resolve any pending extradition requests between the two nations.

Following the successful extradition of Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, the former chief executive officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Center, to Ghana, extradition issues have emerged as a major issue in the legal and diplomatic relations between Ghana and the United States.

Sedina Tamakloe was extradited to the country on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, after years of legal proceedings and attempts by Ghanaian authorities to get her extradited due to her failure to appear in court during the trial process.

She was taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service and Prisons Service, shortly after her arrival.

Authorities are currently carrying out the required administrative and legal procedures to enable the start of her prison sentence.

Speaking on the development, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated in a Facebook post that the government plans to use the next meeting between the Attorney-General and representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice to improve collaboration on extradition issues and handle any outstanding requests involving both nations.

A number of high-profile cases that are currently garnering public attention are anticipated to be discussed.

Ghana's plea for the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is one of them.

State authorities have subjected the former minister to investigations and indicated its intent to pursue all lawful means to ensure his return to the country should extradition become a necessity.

The bilateral talks will also involve requests by the United States, seeking extradition of several individuals linked to various criminal investigations and prosecution, including one suspect identified by the name Abu Trica.
