“It Was Difficult For Me To Accept It In The First Place”-Sarkodie On Stir It Up Remix

One of Africa's best rappers Sarkodie has admitted that it was difficult for him to consent to feature in the STIR IT UP remix by the late iconic Reggae musician Bob Marley.

He claims that despite the offer being a tremendous chance for his career, he did not think it was appropriate to take it. Speaking on his Twitter space with Artiste Manager and Label Executive KJ Spio, on January 20, Sarkodie disclosed that he was anxious about working on the classic record.

“It was difficult for me to accept it in the first place and you remember quite well that I was about to tell you that we should pass this on. I think this is too huge. I understand this is a great opportunity for us but we are talking about Bob Marley. These are timeless records you don’t want to touch. I’m very particular about stuff like that but then you pushed me, you encouraged me.”

In order to produce his best work, Sarkodie said he collaborated with Ghanaian record producer M.O.G Beatz and Sound Engineer Possigee. He explained that he and his team were given the room and flexibility to express their ideas.

“When they said they were going to give us the legend Bob Marley’s vocals and we are talking about the original vocals that he did I knew that to produce the best record since they have given us the creative freedom it will only make sense to work with people that I worked with for the regular. The people that I believe are super talented and can kill this. Definitely, if you are mentioning production in Ghana you can’t rule out the one and only M.O.G Beatz and also my engineer Possigee.”

More details about the video production process were also revealed during the conversation.

“The little quota that I can also bring on board is to bring my country, so it was necessary that we shot in Ghana. We were thinking about how to keep things under the wraps because when you are shooting outside people notice you are shooting a video to a song. People are going to record; I was tensed. We played other Bob Marley songs. People didn’t really know what was happening. And the part where I could do my verses were places we could control phones and access. But when we had like a party and a lot of people were on the scene it was just we playing one love, redemption, and sometimes we play stir it up so they don’t know that’s the song we are shooting.”

Sarkodie believed that the three-year wait for the record's release was somewhat worrying, however, he is honoured to contribute to Bob Marley’s legacy. In the next months, the rapper will tour the media to promote the project.
