Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are heading their separate ways, as the pop icon has officially filed for divorce from the Hollywood actor. According to TMZ, Lopez submitted the legal paperwork on Tuesday at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, notably doing so without the assistance of an attorney. The documents indicate that the couple, who once captured the hearts of fans worldwide, have been separated since April 26, 2024.
Their love story has been anything but ordinary. Lopez and Affleck first made headlines in 2002 when they began dating, earning the affectionate nickname "Bennifer" from the media. However, their whirlwind romance hit a roadblock, leading to their split in January 2004. Despite their initial breakup, the couple rekindled their relationship nearly two decades later, culminating in a surprise Las Vegas wedding on July 16, 2022. The ceremony was a low-key affair, but their love seemed stronger than ever—until now.
In a twist that has left many speculating, Lopez's divorce filing does not mention a prenuptial agreement, fueling rumors about the financial implications of their split. Insider sources suggest that the couple did not have a prenup in place, which could lead to significant negotiations in the coming months. However, Lopez has reportedly waived any claim to spousal support and is asking the court to deny Affleck the right to request such support as well.
