In a recent interview on the DOWNLOAD podcast with Justin Laboy, Kanye West revealed that he has been diagnosed with autism, a discovery prompted by his wife, Bianca Censori. Censori, observing that West’s behavior didn’t align with typical bipolar disorder traits, encouraged him to seek a second opinion. West shared, MY WIFE TOOK ME BECAUSE SHE SAID , SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR PERSONALITY DOESN’T FEEL LIKE IT’S BIPOLAR, I’VE SEEN BIPOLAR BEFORE. Following this, a new evaluation led to his autism diagnosis.
West had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016, a condition he publicly acknowledged in 2018. However, he now believes that the earlier diagnosis was incorrect. Reflecting on his past experiences, West noted that his misdiagnosed condition led to uncontrolled episodes, which strained his interactions with others. He emphasized that the correct diagnosis has helped him better understand his behaviors and manage episodes more effectively. Despite this newfound clarity, West chooses not to use medication that might hinder his creativity.
This revelation comes after years of public discussions about West’s mental health. In 2020, his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, addressed his bipolar disorder publicly, asking for COMPASSION AND EMPATHY from the public and media. She described West as a BRILLIANT BUT COMPLICATED PERSON and highlighted the challenges of understanding and supporting someone with bipolar disorder.
West’s journey underscores the importance of accurate diagnosis and understanding in mental health. His openness about his experiences aims to shed light on the complexities of mental health conditions and the significance of seeking appropriate medical advice.
