Lionsgate has expressed its desire to keep Keanu Reeves involved in the John Wick franchise, regardless of the extent of his participation. The statement came after the premiere of John Wick: Chapter 4, which some fans believe is the end for Reeves' character. Group Chair Joe Drake told Deadline, “We’re not ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise. It’s what alternative there will be.”
Reeves himself has confirmed that he will appear in the John Wick spinoff, The Ballerina, alongside Ana de Armas. However, the Lionsgate executive is looking forward to continuing the main storyline of the franchise with more John Wick stories. Drake said, “There’s a lot of different things that we can do. I’ve seen this movie five times in the last week. I can see the way that the audience moves him.”
The latest installment of the franchise, Chapter 4, earned a franchise-record opening weekend with $73.5 million USD in the domestic box office and $137.5 million worldwide. This makes it Reeves' second-best global opening after The Matrix Revolution.
It remains to be seen what form Reeves' future involvement in the franchise will take. However, it is clear that Lionsgate values the actor's contributions to the John Wick series and wants to keep him involved in some capacity. Fans of the franchise can look forward to more thrilling action and drama from the world of John Wick.
