Decorated American professional basketball player LeBron James and American professional tennis player, Coco Gauff have been named as Team USA's flag bearers for the 2024 Paris Olympics, a historic selection that marks a new era in American sports leadership.
This dynamic duo represents the best of American athleticism, with James, a four-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, joining forces with Gauff, who has won career singles titles and the youngest American to ever carry the flag at just 20 years old.
Gauff's rise to tennis stardom has been nothing short of phenomenal, with her win at the 2023 US Open and doubles title at the 2024 French Open cementing her status as a global tennis sensation.
James, a seasoned Olympian, brings his experience and leadership to the role, having competed in four previous Olympics and winning gold medals in 2008 and 2012.
Together, James and Gauff will lead the U.S. delegation on the Seine River for the Summer Games' opening ceremony, showcasing their dedication and passion on the biggest stage in sports.
Their selection as flag bearers emphasizes the respect and admiration from their peers, who voted for them to lead Team USA.
Gauff expressed her gratitude upon learning of her selection, via a post on X saying, “ I just want to say thank you to my fellow team USA olympians/athletes for voting and choosing me for this incredible honor to be the flag bearer for the opening ceremony. Thank you so much. I am incredibly honored.”
As they prepare to lead Team USA into the Paris Olympics, James and Gauff embody the spirit of American excellence, inspiring a new generation of athletes and fans alike with their remarkable achievements and leadership.
