Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs got off to a slow start in the just ended Superbowl LVII. After trailing the Philadelphia Eagles for the majority of the first three quarters of the NFL Championship Game, the star quarterback led the offensive surge in the late second half with the Chiefs defeating the Eagles in a nail-biting 38-35 victory.
Mahomes' big run set up the Chiefs' win. The series was saved by a defensive holding call against the Eagles. Mahomes was a force to lift the Chiefs out of their first-half slump, throwing three touchdown passes. The Eagles fought valiantly but came up short in the fourth quarter. In the second half, Philadelphia settled for a field goal, setting up the Chiefs for a much-needed comeback.
The Chiefs took their first lead of the game to start the fourth quarter, launching the team on an upward trajectory. Despite his loss, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was a force to be reckoned with. Hurts, who threw a memorable 45-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown, also rushed for three touchdowns, becoming only the second player in NFL history to do so in a Super Bowl.
Kansas City has won the Super Bowl for the second time in four years as Patrick Mahomes adds a second ring to his collection after leading the team to a 10-point comeback at the half. The Chiefs are only the second team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl after coming back from a double-digit halftime deficit. Mahomes, the new NFL MVP, completed 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing six times for 44 yards.
