France's Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose in their Euro 2024 opener against Austria on Monday, but surgery won't be required immediately. The French Football Federation announced that a custom mask will be made for the captain, but his availability for Friday's match against the Netherlands is still uncertain.

The 25-year-old forward's injury occurred when his face collided with Kevin Danso's shoulder during an aerial challenge, leading to a hospital visit where the fracture was confirmed. Despite the injury, Mbappe returned to the field without permission, receiving a yellow card before being substituted.

Coach Didier Deschamps described the injury as "complicated" and "unfortunate" for the team, stating that Mbappe was not doing well after the game. Mbappe's contributions to the team are crucial, having scored 47 goals in 80 appearances for France, including forcing an own goal in their 1-0 victory over Austria. His presence will be vital in France's quest for a third European title.
