In an unprecedented move, MTN Nigeria has announced the temporary closure of all its offices across the country, effective July 30th, 2024. The decision comes after a wave of vandalism and protests targeted at the telecom giant's offices, sparked by the recent disconnection of unlinked SIM cards.

The Nigerian Communications Commission's (NCC) directive to bar outgoing calls on unregistered SIM cards has left millions of subscribers frustrated, with many taking to the streets to express their anger. MTN offices have borne the brunt of this frustration, with several branches vandalized and staff threatened.

In response, MTN has directed customers to utilize digital channels for support during the closure. The company has also assured customers that alternative measures are being put in place to ensure continuity of services.

Meanwhile, the NCC has intervened, ordering telecom operators to temporarily reconnect all phone lines that were blocked as part of the NIN-SIM verification exercise. This move aims to ease tensions and provide relief to affected subscribers.

The temporary closure of MTN offices is a significant development in the ongoing saga, highlighting the need for a resolution to the NIN-SIM linkage controversy. As the situation unfolds, customers and stakeholders eagerly await a lasting solution.
