Randy Goodman, Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Nashville, has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2024, after an illustrious 35-year career in the music industry. Goodman's tenure at Sony Music Nashville, which began in 2015, has been marked by remarkable success, including the discovery and nurturing of country music superstars like Luke Combs, Kane Brown, Maren Morris, and Maren Moroney.
Under Goodman's leadership, Sony Music Nashville has consistently dominated the country music charts, with the label being named Billboard's Country Label Group of the Year in 2019 and 2020. Goodman's strategic vision and passion for music have earned him numerous accolades, including the 2019 Presidential Award for outstanding executive achievement from Music Biz.
Goodman's journey in the music industry began with a 16-year stint at RCA Records, where he held various roles, including Senior Vice President of Global Marketing in New York and Executive Vice President and General Manager of the RCA Label Group in Nashville. In 1997, he founded Lyric Street Records for the Walt Disney Co., overseeing the label as President until 2010.
During his time at Lyric Street Records, Goodman worked with notable artistes such as Rascal Flatts, Aaron Tippin, and American Idol finalist Josh Gracin. His expertise and leadership have also extended to various industry organizations, including serving as President and Chairman of the CMA Board and as a board member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
As Goodman prepares to pass the torch, he expressed gratitude to his family and colleagues, saying, "There are too many people to thank specifically who helped and supported me along the way... Looking back over my career's arc, I am humbled and honored to have had the privilege to work with the artiste legends I have; and as importantly, the teams I've been privileged to work with and lead".
Sony Music Group Chairman Rob Stringer praised Goodman's contributions, stating, "Thank you to Randy for leading our Nashville company through the last nine years and providing some of the biggest new superstars in the genre of country music".
Goodman's retirement marks the end of an era, but his legacy will continue to shape the country music landscape. His commitment to fostering talent and innovation has left an indelible mark on the industry.
As the music community bids farewell to Goodman's leadership, they also celebrate his remarkable achievements and the lasting impact he has made on the lives of countless artistes and music enthusiasts alike.
