Morgan Heritage, the 3-time Grammy award-winning reggae group, has announced their upcoming studio album, The Homeland, set to release on April 21. Comprised of Peetah Morgan, Gramps Morgan and Mr. Mojo Morgan, the trio are the children of late reggae icon, the Hon. Ras Denroy Morgan.
The 21-track album, featuring contributions from Popcaan, Youssou N'Dour, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Shatta Wale, Mádé Kuti and others, signals a new era for the group as they expand their global reach from the Caribbean to the African Continent and beyond. This is their first album since the passing of their father last year.
The album is a project of rebirth for the Morgan brothers, built upon a lineage that has lasted decades and one that will continue to forge forward. Through their music, they take their listeners on a journey that not only evokes nostalgia but also the promise of the future. The Homeland is just the beginning of a busy year for Morgan Heritage, who are set to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and tour the world later this year with more dates yet to be announced.
Morgan Heritage has also released the lead single Who Deh Like U featuring Bounty Killer, Cham and Stonebwoy, to accompany the album announcement. The single debuted at the number one spot on the US iTunes Afrobeat chart. Mojo Morgan shared that the track is about the uniqueness of an individual and how their value never diminishes no matter how far away they are.
He added that it would be challenging to find someone like the individual being celebrated in the song anywhere in the world. The upbeat and lively single gives fans a taste of what they can expect from the upcoming album, which promises to take listeners on a musical journey spanning the Caribbean and the African continent.
Just A Number, a song and music video by Morgan Heritage that examines cancel culture and the transitory nature of a celebrity was just released. The video was directed by Samo, who has previously worked with Koffee, Chronixx and Protoje. It was filmed in the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. On March 28, the band is scheduled to perform as part of The Drop Series at the GRAMMY Museum, kicking off their extensive promotional tour. Los Angeles, New York, London, Germany and other places will all be visited during the trip.
