Seven Xavier, the President of the Alliance for Change in Ghana Music was on 3Music's Big Conversation to shed some information on the current court hearing taking place over the ban of celebrity endorsements of alcoholic brands in Ghana. He was present in the stead of the plaintiff, Mark Osae Darlington who is suing the FDA (Food And Drugs Authority) over the ban on celebrity endorsement of alcohol brands. He is a strong advocate for structural changes within the Ghana Music industry and is a founding member of pressure group and musicians union, Alliance For Change in Ghana Music.
The court proceedings commenced at the supreme court on the 15th of November 2023 and has been adjourned to the 17th of January 2023. Following this, Seven Xavier has sat in conversation with the culture squad to open up on the origin of the ban and the legality of it. According to him, the ban is illegal and came about as a result of an individual decision. He revealed that a conversation with the FDA opened their eyes to the fact that the ban was not law or backed by it, but rather it was being operated on the back of a WHO (World Health Organization) rule. This he said came to them as a surprise and following a lengthy conversation led to the conclusion that the ban was rooted in moral grounds than proper laid out tangible reasons and ultimately led to the need to settle the issue in court.
