Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg has sent shockwaves through the music world with the announcement of his 21st studio album, IZ IT A CRIME?, set to release tomorrow, May 15, 2025, alongside an accompanying short film, both under his Death Row Records imprint. The 53-year-old West Coast icon, coming off the success of his collaborative album MISSIONARY with Dr. Dre in December 2024, shared that the 21-track project features an impressive lineup of heavy-hitters including Pharrell Williams, Sexyy Red, Wiz Khalifa, LaRussell, and October London.

The short film, a bold creative extension, will delve into the controversial moments of Snoop’s storied career, including his appearance at a Trump-affiliated event that sparked heated debates across platforms. Snoop’s ability to blend introspective themes with his signature laid-back flow has fans eagerly awaiting what promises to be a multifaceted exploration of his legacy and identity.

The album cover, featuring Snoop alongside his wife Shante "Boss Lady" Broadus, proudly showcases their Long Beach roots, a nod to the community that shaped his journey from a young rapper to a global icon. During an interview with Access Hollywood hosts Mario Lopez and Kit Hoover, Snoop reflected on the project’s core question, stating, “They keep asking me if it’s a crime to be myself,” hinting at an introspective tone that grapples with public perception and personal authenticity.

This release marks Snoop’s second major project in just over five months, following MISSIONARY, which peaked at number 25 on the Billboard 200 and earned critical acclaim for its nostalgic production. The short film, expected to drop simultaneously on streaming platforms, adds a cinematic layer to the album, offering fans a deeper look into the Doggfather’s evolution amidst the highs and lows of his 30-year career.

Fans are buzzing with excitement, eagerly awaiting the double serving of IZ IT A CRIME?, a rare treat that combines Snoop’s musical prowess with a visual narrative. The project’s timing, just months after his gospel album ALTAR CALL dedicated to his late mother, Beverly Tate, demonstrates Snoop’s relentless creative drive and versatility at 53.

As a cultural figure who has transitioned from rapper to entrepreneur, actor, and now film producer, Snoop continues to redefine what it means to be a hip-hop legend. With the album and film set to drop, the anticipation is palpable, and IZ IT A CRIME is poised to spark conversations about authenticity, legacy, and the cost of staying true to oneself in the face of scrutiny.
