The Nollywood film industry is enveloped in grief following the passing of the esteemed veteran actress Stella Ikwuegbu. She succumbed to a valiant battle with leg cancer on Sunday, June 16, 2024.


The heart-wrenching news was shared by prominent movie producer Stanley Nwoko, also known by his professional alias Stanley Ontop, through his Instagram account.


In his poignant post, as reported by Graphic Showbiz, Stanley expressed: "Nollywood actress and veteran Mrs. Stella Ikwuegbu has passed away. The esteemed actress departed from this world today after enduring a struggle with leg cancer. Rest in peace, Madam Stella. Nollywood mourns yet again. It is well."


Stella Ikwuegbu's passing is a significant loss to the Nollywood community, coming merely five days after the demise of another revered actor, Dayo Adewunmi, affectionately known as Sule Suebebe, who passed away at the age of 68.



Stella Ikwuegbu was an exceptional actress whose career took flight in the vibrant Nollywood scene in the 90s. Her talent and versatility shone brightly through her numerous performances in a myriad of films. She graced the screen in popular titles such as SPOILER, UKWA, SOUND OF LOVE, HOLY MAN, TWO HEARTS, HEART OF STONE, and MADAM KOIKOI amongst many others.


Beyond her illustrious acting career, Stella was a successful entrepreneur. On August 1, she ventured into the business world with the launch of her restaurant, THE FILM BAR, which quickly became a beloved spot among both fans and fellow actors.


The Nollywood community, along with her fans, is left to cherish the legacy of her exceptional work and the indelible mark she left on the industry. Stella Ikwuegbu's contributions to Nollywood were not just performances; they were moments of magic that resonated deeply with audiences, earning her a place in the hearts of many.


Her journey, though marred by her battle with illness,showcased her strength and dedication. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the rich legacy she leaves behind – one of talent, resilience, and an enduring impact on the Nigerian film industry.
