During a compelling interview at 3Music TV, Ghanaian music icon Stonebwoy shared insights into the artistic and cultural synergy behind his collaboration with Jamaican dancehall queen Spice on the track JIGGLE AND WHINE. The collaboration, a standout from his latest album, not only signifies a blending of two musical powerhouses but also reflects a deeper commitment to bridging African and Caribbean cultures.
Stonebwoy revealed that his admiration for Spice's artistry dates back years, with their first meeting occurring in Jamaica in 2017. They reconnected during European tours, where mutual respect and shared goals solidified their decision to collaborate. “Working with the queen of dancehall was always in the plan; it just had to happen at the right time,” he explained. The result is JIGGLE AND WHINE, a track that pulsates with vibrant energy and cultural authenticity.
One of Stonebwoy’s driving philosophies is the preservation and celebration of cultural heritage. In his words, the collaboration was about more than creating music—it was about fostering an enduring connection between African and Caribbean soundscapes. He underscored the significance of being a "culture custodian" who honors traditions, rather than a "culture vulture" who exploits them. This ethos shaped every aspect of their work together, from the musical composition to the lyrical content.
Stonebwoy also spoke about the creative exchange that brought JIOGGLE AND WHINE to life. He reminisced about teaching Spice Twi phrases and sharing stories of the Akan roots of Jamaica’s Maroon communities. “These aren’t just stories; they’re connections that remind us how closely intertwined our histories are,” he said. He praised Spice’s input in adding a local Ghanaian element to the song, which he believes elevated its authenticity and appeal.
Beyond the studio, Stonebwoy made sure to give Spice a taste of Ghana’s vibrant culture. From exploring local hotspots to indulging in Ghanaian cuisine, the visit deepened their bond and emphasized the unity that music can inspire. “Showing her what Ghana has to offer was just as important as making music together,” he noted.
With JIGGLE AND WHINE receiving widespread acclaim, Stonebwoy continues to use his platform to unite diverse audiences. His collaboration with Spice speaks to his belief that music is a universal language capable of celebrating shared heritage while inspiring future generations.
