In a compelling conversation on 3Music TV’s Big Conversation with host Jay Foley, the Ghanaian collective Super Jazz Club shared their remarkable musical journey across continents. Starting from humble beginnings in their home studios, this collective has managed to create a sound that resonates globally. From performing in the South of France to making waves in Lagos and even gracing the prestigious Montreal Jazz Festival, their story is one of passion, evolution, and persistence.
What began in 2018 as a pursuit to create the music they were passionate about has opened doors that seemed unimaginable at the start. Their first international performance, at a skateboarding event in France, was a surreal experience. Over time, the group has continued to elevate, performing at notable festivals like Palmwine Festival in Lagos and the Homecoming in Nigeria. The group's performances in Switzerland and London further cement their place as boundary-breaking artistes.
One of their most memorable milestones was playing at the Montreal Jazz Festival, one of the most renowned jazz festivals in the world. Reflecting on that experience, they expressed awe at how far their music had taken them—from their bedroom studios to a global stage where they performed alongside jazz legends. For them, it wasn't just about being on stage; it was about the realization that their sound, rooted in Ghana, was being appreciated by audiences who might have never heard of them before.
Super Jazz Club’s journey sheds more light on the universal appeal of music, transcending borders and cultures. Their success speaks to the power of following one’s passion, evolving as artistes, and continuously pushing the boundaries of what alternative music from Ghana can achieve on a global scale.
