Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi is currently in an induced coma and receiving intensive care after undergoing emergency surgery for a serious abdominal injury sustained during Nottingham Forest’s match against Leicester City on Sunday, according to multiple reports and an official club statement.

The 26-year-old forward suffered the injury in a painful collision with the goalpost while attempting to convert a chance. Despite his initial effort to play on, Awoniyi was later substituted and rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.

In a statement released by Nottingham Forest, the club confirmed that Awoniyi is “recovering well so far” and emphasized that player health remains the top priority. The scene at the City Ground turned emotional when Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis walked onto the pitch following the final whistle, visibly shaken by the incident and showing deep concern for the player’s condition.




Awoniyi, a key figure for both club and country, has been instrumental in Forest’s Premier League campaign. Fans and players across the football world have since flooded social media with well-wishes, hoping for his full and speedy recovery.
