The University of Ghana has officially announced its plan to take over the operations of the Legon Botanical Garden after November 30th, following a period of uncertainty regarding the facility’s future. This announcement comes in the wake of an initial declaration by Mulch Company Limited, the management of the popular recreational site, indicating that it would be permanently closing down.

While the initial announcement did not provide specific reasons for the shutdown, a statement issued by Dr. Eliezer Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, the Director of Public Affairs at the University of Ghana, clarified that the decision follows a protracted legal battle between the university and Mulch Company Limited. The agreement to cease operations paves the way for the University to assume control of the botanical garden.

In light of the transition, the University of Ghana has reassured the public that the Legon Botanical Garden will remain open, albeit temporarily, as it undergoes necessary repairs and renovations. The institution aims to enhance the facility, which is cherished by both locals and visitors for its diverse plant species and serene environment.
