Six outstanding ladies were diversely honoured for their service to music and outstanding representation of women in creative arts when the 5th annual 3Music Awards aired on Ghana’s Independence Day and two days prior to International Women’s Day.
Held at the forecourt of the 3Music HQ here in Accra, the Women’s Brunch discussed the struggles and feats of women in music on the theme Breaking the Bias, in line with 3Music Award’s social impact campaign to address the marginalization of women in arts and to amplify the need for equal representation.
Madams Constance Swaniker, Norkor Duah, Doreen Andoh and Esther Nyamekye were all presented with citations by female constituents on the Board of the 3Music Awards for their lingering service to music and excellence in their line of work.
Socialite cum singer Mona 4Reall also won Emerging Woman of
the Year while highflying starlet Gyakie scooped the overall Music Woman of the
Year gong, an award that has come to be known as the early prize due to its
relative significance although awarded before main night of the annual Music
Awards.
Mona was the absolute favourite to win the Emerging Woman of the Year category after an incredible purple patch, becoming the first female newcomer to drop at least five hits within a calendar year.
Gyakie on the hand staved off fierce competition from Diana Hamilton, Adina, Mona 4Reall, Wendy Shay, S3fa, Ohemaa Mercy and Amaarae to emerge the youngest ever recipient of the prestigious Music Woman of the Year prize since the late great Ebony Reigns.
The 3Music Awards have built a reputation for pioneering music event ideas. This year’s Women’s Brunch was no different. Adina and Yaa Yaa were the performers on the nouvelle open-air stage to a midday event free for fans in a party setting of food and culture.
The Women’s Brunch also revealed its maiden list of the annual Top 50 Women in Music [Africa] to climax the event. The list was offically released on March 8, 2022 to commemorate International Women’s Day.
