AFCON 2025 Faces Potential Postponement Due to Scheduling Conflicts

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is at risk of being postponed due to scheduling conflicts with other major football tournaments. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed that the tournament, which was originally scheduled to take place in the summer of 2025, may be delayed by up to six months.

The scheduling conflicts arise from FIFA's new inter-club World Cup, which is set to take place in the same summer as AFCON 2025. CAF is currently in talks with UEFA, the European Club Association, and FIFA to find a suitable date for the tournament.

Additionally, the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which is scheduled to take place in Morocco, has yet to confirm a date due to clashes with the Olympics and other football tournaments. CAF is working to find a solution that prioritizes the interests of players and teams.

The potential postponement of AFCON 2025 has already caused concern among football fans and teams across Africa. Ghana's Black Queens have already qualified for the next WAFCON, but AFCON qualifiers have not yet started.

CAF is expected to make a final decision on the scheduling of both tournaments in the coming weeks.
