The much-anticipated African Legends Night is set to return on Friday, December 1, 2023, at the Grand Arena in Accra.
This year's edition is poised to make history with an exceptional lineup and a promise to deliver unmatched musical prowess hosting music legends to thrill patrons with unforgettable musical experiences – the Princess of Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, the Hiplife legend, Obrafuor, Highlife icon, George Jahraa, and the master soul singer, Kwabena Kwabena.
The event has over the years celebrated living legends such as Hugh Masekela of South Africa, Femi Kuti of Nigeria, and Ghanaian legends like Amakye Dede, George Darko, Ofie and Ben Brako, Freddy Meiway, and Yvonne Chaka Chaka. In the last edition, Kojo Antwi, Samini, and Daddy Lumba joined the living legends of the African Legends Night.
Having become synonymous with celebrating the musical excellence and contributions of African legends, each with their unique style and musical influence, the event is expected to provide a captivating atmosphere for the audience in an unforgettable night of music and celebration.
Affectionately known as the Princess of Africa, one of this year's celebrants is Yvonne Chaka Chaka, known for her philanthropic work and advocacy for social causes in addition to gracing the global music stage for decades with her powerhouse vocals and timeless hits including UMQOMBOTHI and others which have transcended borders, making her a beloved African icon.
Another legend to be celebrated on the night is Ghana's Obrafour whoc is widely recognized as the Rap Sofo owing to the constant use of his music as a platform to preach a message. He is a pioneer in Ghana's Hiplife music genre whose thought-provoking lyrics and innovative style have garnered him a dedicated following across Africa in addition to being an influential figure in the Ghanaian music industry.
He is not the only Ghanaian legend to perform and be celebrated on the night as highlife colossus George Jahraa and Kwabena Kwabena are expected to represent on the night. Garnering popularity following the release of his first album DRIVER BANZA in 1990, George Jahraa is known for his electrifying stage performances and presence which resonates with his audience. Some of his hit songs include, ASHIKELE, ASOR and SANUKADE amongst others.
Another Ghanaian household name is KwabenaKwabena who has remained in the hearts and mind of Ghanaians both home and abroad with his soulful ballads and romantic melodies, coupled with his enchanting voice and emotionally charged lyrics making him a favorite among music enthusiasts.
The lineup of legends goes to rehash the promise of the The African Legends Night to deliver an enchanting evening filled with soul-stirring live performances, cherished classics, and an opportunity to celebrate the richness and diversity of African music.
