Nigeria's Nollywood mourns yet another loss with the passing of veteran comic actor Amaechi Muonagor. Aged 62, Muonagor succumbed to kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke after a prolonged battle.
His demise was reported on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024. The sad news follows closely on the heels of a viral video where Muonagor appealed for financial assistance for a kidney transplant in India. Despite leaving the teaching hospital due to financial constraints, Muonagor's health deteriorated, prompting urgent intervention.
Prior to his passing, Muonagor made a poignant plea for assistance in a viral video circulating on social media. He urgently sought financial support for a kidney transplant in India, as his health continued to deteriorate. Despite his courageous fight, Muonagor's condition remained precarious, compelling him to leave the confines of the teaching hospital where he had been receiving treatment, primarily due to financial constraints.
In the video, his colleague and friend, actor Kingsley Orji, expressed deep concern over Muonagor's plight. Orji revealed the gravity of the situation, emphasizing Muonagor's impaired speech and the urgent necessity for a kidney transplant to sustain his life. The distressing reality of Muonagor's condition underscored the pressing need for immediate intervention and support from the community.
This loss adds to the somber list of departed Nollywood icons, including the recent passing of John "Mr Ibu" Okafor on March 2, who battled a prolonged illness resulting in the loss of his leg.
