Legal fireworks are igniting in the music world as Donna Summer's estate files a lawsuit against Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, alleging the unauthorized use of the iconic song I FEEL LOVE on their joint album VULTURES 1. Bruce Sudano, Summer's husband, initiated the legal action, asserting that West and Ty proceeded to use the song despite being explicitly denied permission by the estate and Universal Music Enterprises.
According to the lawsuit, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign incorporated re-recorded segments of I FEEL LOVE into their track GOOD (DON'T DIE). This contentious track has since been removed from streaming platforms. The lawsuit is seeking an injunction to halt any further dissemination of the song and is also pursuing damages, which will be determined during the trial.
This isn't the first time Kanye West has faced allegations of unauthorized sampling. Recently, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne accused the rapper of using a Black Sabbath sample without permission. The Osbournes promptly issued a cease and desist order to West, resulting in the replacement of the sample in question.
Amidst these legal battles, Kanye West's VULTURES 1 albums are finding themselves embroiled in controversy. NME's review of VULTURES 1 criticized the collection, labeling it as "mired in misogyny" and plagued by "degrading lyrics and messy mixes."
As the lawsuit against Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign progresses, the music world eagerly awaits the progress of this legal drama and what impact it may have on the future of VULTURES 1.
