Afrobeat
sensation Mr. Drew has finally parted ways with his manager Mr Philip Nelson
well known in showbiz as Jeezy.
Mr.
Nelson explained that the “Dw3” hit-maker Mr. Drew made certain comments which
did not sit well with him, thus, resulting in the decision to stop working
together. According to Jeezy, he realized the singer did not require his
services any longer. He made these revelations in an interview on 3Music TV’s Culture
Daily while discussing the roles of managers.
“When
we met with the lawyers, that’s my lawyer and Drew’s lawyer. They came up with
a contract. I didn’t decide to even part ways with him because of the contract
but it was because of some utterances from the artiste. So I kind of realised
at this point I had to run away because he felt like he’s gotten to a point
where he wants to make decisions for himself and that he feels he’s the boss now.
So I felt like you don’t need a manager, you can handle yourself.”
When
asked by host Jay Foley about how managers find talent, the Ex-Manager provided
additional details about how he first started working with Mr. Drew.
“So
Drew I watched him during his time at HitMaker so I followed his journey from
auditions to the finals then I realized this guy is a talent. I wanted to manage
someone like Michael Jackson. I followed him till he finished. The funny thing
is I never approached him. I was helping him because I was working with GHONE
TV and I was producing rhythms which is a musical show so at any point in time I
was playing his music. So I don’t know if he got to know this man likes my
music then he approached me in 2019 to manage him. So that’s how it started.”
Jeezy
and Mr. Drew worked for a while, and during that time, Mr. Drew saw success
with his songs.
