Ghanaian students studying in Morocco under the Morocco scholarship program protested on Friday, May 24, due to alleged delays in receiving their stipends. The demonstration occurred at the Ghana Embassy in Morocco.
The students claim that the prolonged delay has caused significant difficulties, emotional distress, risks, and academic challenges for undergraduate, master's, and PhD students. They are calling on the government, the Ministry of Finance, and the Scholarship Secretariat to expedite the stipend release to prevent further delays.
They expressed their struggles, saying, “How do we survive? Our landlords are evicting us, some of us are sleeping with friends, and some are sleeping outside. Imagine sending your daughter to study abroad for 10 months without providing money for rent, how do you expect her to survive? Many are in debt, and some are depressed. Recently, someone nearly committed suicide. This isn't noise or a story; it's our reality. Our lives are at risk. We are pleading with you, Mr. President, if you don't intervene, there will be blood on your hands”, one student lamented.
