Guinea’s Military Dissolves Government, Promises New Leadership

In a surprising move, the military leaders in Guinea have dissolved the government without providing any explanation. General Amara Camara has announced that operations will continue under deputy secretaries until a new government is formed. This comes as the country, which has been under military rule since the ousting of President Alpha Conde in 2021, faces pressure from ECOWAS to transition back to civilian rule. Elections are planned for 2025.

Members of the dissolved government have been ordered to return their vehicles and passports, and their bank accounts have been frozen. Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, the country's leader, justified the coup as a means to prevent chaos and criticized the previous government for failing to fulfill promises. However, his tenure has faced criticism for not improving living conditions, prompting calls for him to take responsibility.
