John Dumelo, the parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has made a passionate appeal to the Electoral Commission(EC) to establish voter transfer centers on university campuses. He highlighted the significant challenges students face in traveling to the district office at Ridge to transfer their votes.

According to Dumelo, thousands of students from institutions like UNIMAC, GIJ, UG-Legon, GIMPA, UPSA and Knustford are eager to transfer their votes but are hindered by the location barrier. With only ten days left to complete the voter transfer exercise, Dumelo urged the EC to set up centers in these universities to streamline the process.

He emphasized that students have busy schedules with lectures, assessments, exams, assignments and other commitments, making it challenging for them to commute to Ridge. Many of these students have registered in their home regions but are currently residing in Accra for their studies and are likely to remain in Accra on December 7. Dumelo warned that these students risk being disenfranchised and proposed that even a brief presence of voter transfer machines in the universities, lasting four or five days, would be highly beneficial.

He urged the EC to consider this suggestion to ensure a high voter turnout and a smooth voting process for the students.
