American
Rapper Nicki Minaj has been ranked as the greatest female rapper of all-time by
Billboard and Vibe Editorial.
The SUPER BASS hitmaker placed 10th out of 50 rappers. Fourty-four of them were males and 6 were females. The 50 Greatest Rappers of All-Time was rolled out to commemorate this year’s 50th anniversary of the hip-hop genre which dates back to 1973.
Born
Onika Tanya Maraj, Nicki Minaj has become an idol for young female rappers. With
her fierce and boastful aura, she has paved the way for women in the highly male-dominated
industry. In 2009, she produced a mixtape titled BEAM ME UP SCOTTY and became the first female on the record label
Young Money. She has four studio albums and more than 121 singles. Three
mixtapes are also credited to her.
Among
her many accolades, Nicki Minaj was honoured with the MTV Video Vanguard Awards
in 2022 and has more than 100 Billboard Hot 100 entries. She currently has a
son with Kenneth Petty, to whom she is married.
The
50 Greatest Rappers of All Time rollout started on January 11 when rappers who
were ranked from 50 to 41 were revealed. From there, 10 more rappers were displayed
each week. The ranks were determined by the following criteria; charted
singles/albums, gold/platinum certifications, and cultural impact/influence
among others.
