Parliament has issued a summons for the appearance of the Minister for Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, slated for Tuesday, March 19, 2024. This decision was prompted by the Minority Caucus's apprehensions surrounding the recent implementation of maintenance charges by the Ghana Airports Company Limited. Specifically, concerns were raised regarding the imposition of a $20 maintenance fee on round trips and a $10 charge for one-way trips.
MP Haruna Iddrisu emphasized the necessity for the Minister's presence to elucidate the authority underpinning these charges. He alleged collusion between the Ghana Airports Company Limited and the Transport Minister in implementing these fees, prompting a call for clarification on whether they align with the Fees and Charges Act approved by the Parliament of Ghana.
Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Amoako Asiamah echoed these sentiments, expressing his unease over the unilateral imposition of charges by the airport company. He directed the Transport Minister to appear before the House on March 19 to provide insights into the rationale behind these charges and their compliance with existing legislation.
