It's undeniable – PLAYGHANA is awesome! The movement that promotes the amplification of Ghanaian music is long overdue and deserves applause. However, as we revel in the joy of seeing our songs in heavy rotation, it's time to ask a crucial question: are we also developing mechanisms to ensure that artistes get duly compensated? In other words, how can we make PLAYGHANA translate into PAYGHANA.
Having your song played everywhere is fantastic, but it would be counterproductive if there isn't a robust system in place to ensure that artistes receive fair compensation through functional royalty structures. Who is keeping track of these plays, and as an artiste, how do you stay informed about the impact of your music when it's on constant replay? Are organizations like Ghamro and Musiga involved, and if so, how?
These questions become even more pertinent when we consider the potential resistance from media houses, venues, and other platforms that may continue to favor foreign music. How do we enforce PLAYGHANA, ensuring that the initiative isn't just a slogan but a tangible reality? What measures are in place to make sure that the movement is embraced and implemented across board?
While I'm 100% supportive of the PLAYGHANA initiative, it's crucial to address these questions to build a solid ecosystem that withstands the test of time. Patriotism alone may not be enough; we need a comprehensive 360 System that ensures #PlayGhana doesn't miss a beat in achieving its goals.
Let's not just play Ghana; let's also ensure that Ghana gets paid. The success of this initiative lies not only in the amplification of our music but in the establishment of a fair and sustainable system for our talented artistes. As we push the initiative, PLAYGHANA, let's work together to make PAYGHANA a reality.
