B.I, the stage name of South Korean singer Kim Hanbin, has expressed the desire to collaborate with Nigerian music icon Wizkid. In an interview with Korean pop journalist Ella Okunmwendia for GQ South Africa, the 26-year-old rapper and record producer acknowledged his appreciation for the Ojuelegba crooner.
B.I is well-known in the African music community. After the release of BTBT, an Afrobeats-influenced song with assistance from Soulja Boy and DeVita in 2022, he enjoyed huge popularity in Africa. The afro-influence in BTBT wasn't meant, although B.I wanted to combine K-pop and Latin music. However, he notes that "a lot of modern music is fantastic mixtures of many genres," which is why the song has an afro-futuristic flavour.
BTBT was the "longest-charting K-pop song" in Nigeria according to Spotify's Daily Viral Chart in 2022 after spending 34 days there. In South Africa, Egypt and Morocco, where it spent 68 days on the chart, it also held the same record. He also admitted that he has been enjoying Wizkid and Tems' Essence a lot and given the chance, he would like to collaborate with Wizkid. According to Ella Okunmwendia he said "I adore Wizkid so much. He is someone I would love to work with in the future."
B.I is thinking about incorporating an African genre into his music with the intention of reaching a worldwide audience. B.I mentioned Afropop, Amapiano, Afrohouse and Highlife when asked about his favourite genres.
