A priceless artifact, a statue head of the mighty Pharaoh Ramses II, is finally back in Egypt after being missing for over 30 years! Imagine that – a piece of history ripped away, and now, finally coming home.
This incredible statue isn't just any old head. Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great, was a superstar Pharaoh who ruled Egypt for a whopping 66 years! The statue itself was part of a bigger one, showing Ramses II chilling with some important Egyptian gods.Thieves snuck it out of the Ramses II temple way back in the 1990s, most likely hoping to sell it for a big payday.
But here's the good news: the statue wasn't gone forever. Eagle-eyed Egyptian officials spotted it for sale at a fancy art gallery in London all the way back in 2013!
The statue then went on a bit of a journey, traveling through different countries before finally ending up in Switzerland. Thankfully, the Egyptians teamed up with the Swiss authorities, and together they were able to track it down and bring it back home.
Now, this ancient head can be reunited with the rest of the statue and displayed for everyone to see. A happy ending for history lovers worldwide! This story just goes to show that even stolen treasures can find their way back home.
