Today in Hip-Hop History: LL Cool J Dropped His BIGGER AND DEFFER (B.A.D.) LP 37 Years Ago
LL COOL J

On this very day in 1987, LL Cool J's monumental album, BIGGER AND DEFFER, hit the shelves courtesy of Def Jam/Columbia/CBS Records. As LL's sophomore effort, critics were bracing for the infamous sophomore jinx, but were met with a delightful surprise. B.A.D. not only defied expectations but propelled Cool J to instant superstardom, especially following his memorable cameo as a promising LL Cool J in the film Krush Groove.

During this era, LL had the formidable backing of two exceptional DJs: DJ Cut Creator and the renowned West Coast super-producer DJ Bobcat. Together, they crafted magic in the iconic Chung King Studios, with production helmed by DJ Pooh and L.A. Posse.

BIGGER AND DEFFER boasted two of LL's most iconic singles to date: the swagger-filled anthem I’M BAD and the groundbreaking I NEED LOVE, a tender ode to romance that reshaped the landscape of hip-hop love songs forever.

This masterpiece not only secured a spot in our Top 100 Best Rap Albums but also achieved staggering commercial success, selling over 3 million copies in the United States alone. A heartfelt salute to Uncle L, the incomparable DJs Cut Creator and Bobcat, E Love, and the entire Def Jam team for delivering this timeless classic!
