Tory Lanez, who was recently sentenced to ten years in prison for his involvement in the 2020 shooting incident with Megan Thee Stallion, is seeking release on bail as he awaits an appeal. He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow before LA County Judge David V. Herriford, who had handed down his sentence in August.
Lanez' request for bail is met with skepticism from legal experts. Michael Freedman of The Freedman Firm explained that to obtain bail pending an appeal, Lanez must demonstrate a substantial likelihood of prevailing on appeal, typically by showing errors made by the trial judge. It is rare for a judge to grant such a request, especially when it pertains to their own rulings that have been previously denied.
Despite the challenges, Lanez' bail motion emphasizes his commitment to maintaining sobriety if released. A rehab facility owner has vouched for Lanez as a suitable candidate for treatment, although the bail motion does not explicitly mention rehab. Additionally, the owner has offered to transport Lanez to rehab personally, even though Lanez' motion states he plans to rent a home from a friend in the LA area.
Previously, Lanez declined a plea deal that would have resulted in a four-year prison sentence, opting instead to go to trial. Ultimately, he received a sentence more than double the proposed plea deal. Throughout the case, Lanez has maintained his innocence.
The outcome of Lanez' bail request remains uncertain, and his legal battle continues as he seeks to appeal his conviction.
