Truck Driver Jailed for Train Crash on Tema-Mpakadan Railway Line

Abel Dzidotor, the driver of the truck abandoned on the Tema-Mpakadan railway line which led to the train crash on Thursday, has been sentenced to six months in jail. The court has also ordered him to produce his driver's license; failure to comply may result in further penalties.

The incident involved a new government-procured train from Poland undergoing a test run in the Asuogyaman District on April 18. Dzidotor admitted guilt to three of the four charges against him, including inconsiderate driving and causing unlawful damage.

Following his guilty plea for careless driving, a violation of the Road Traffic Act, Dzidotor was sentenced to 100 penalty units, equivalent to a potential 20-month prison term. He also received penalties for unauthorized stopping and causing unlawful damage.

Despite pleading not guilty to failing to produce his driver's license, claiming it was in the damaged vehicle, Dzidotor was convicted and sentenced.
