Jamaican dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, has been denied bail by the Supreme Court, with Justice Andrea Thomas ruling that the murder charge against him remains in effect. The decision comes after an intense legal battle with Kartel's lawyers arguing that his detention was illegal without a conviction or acquittal by the Privy Council.

In March, the Privy Council quashed Kartel's conviction, but the state argued that this did not equate an acquittal, and the murder charge remains "live". The Supreme Court has now sided with the state, meaning Kartel will continue to be detained.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, has been behind bars since 2011, when he was arrested and charged with the murder of Clive "Lizard" Williams. His co-accused, Shawn Campbell and Kahira Jones, are also affected by the ruling.

The case has been a long and complex one with many twists and turns. Kartel's legal team has vowed to continue fighting for his freedom.
