West Ham United is facing a surprising challenge with Manchester City loanee Kalvin Phillips, as reports states  that the midfielder is struggled to make an impact since his January move to the club. According to sources, West Ham coaches has been  left ‘shocked’ by Phillips’ poor performances in games and training, with concerns raised about his apparent lack of interest in playing Premier League football.

Phillips joined West Ham on loan in January after failing to establish himself at Manchester City following his high-profile £45 million transfer from Leeds in the summer of 2022. Despite high expectations, the midfielder has struggled to find his form, making just three starts for West Ham and failing to make a significant impact on the pitch.

His difficulties at Manchester City led to a loss of his place in the England squad, with Pep Guardiola questioning his fitness and weight on multiple occasions. Phillips’ move to West Ham was seen as an opportunity for him to reignite his career, but things have not gone according to plan, with reports indicating that he has underperformed in matches and disappointed in training.

In a recent match against Burnley, Phillips was substituted at halftime, and his performance in a 4-3 defeat to Newcastle raised further concerns about his contribution to the team. Sources suggest that West Ham staff have been taken aback by Phillips’ attitude and level of play, with reports indicating that he has ‘seemingly lost interest’ in playing at the Premier League level.

Furthermore, it has been reported that Manchester City is now willing to accept a significant financial loss to offload Phillips in the summer transfer window. Once seen as a promising talent, Phillips’ valuation has plummeted, and City is reportedly preparing to take a lower fee to move him on from the club.

As the situation unfolds, both West Ham and Manchester City are facing challenges in dealing with Phillips’ disappointing performances and lack of motivation. The future of the midfielder remains uncertain, with questions arising about his ability to bounce back from his current struggles and rediscover his form in the Premier League.
