West Ham United Football Club has successfully completed the acquisition of talented midfielder Mohammed Kudus from Ajax, marking a significant addition to their roster. The player has officially committed to a five-year contract, with the possibility of extending for an additional year, following the successful completion of his medical assessment over the weekend.
In a deal valued at an initial €41.5 million (£35.59 million), with an extra €3 million (£2.57 million) contingent on performance-related factors, West Ham secures Kudus' services amid interest from another undisclosed Premier League club that made a late attempt to secure his signature on Saturday. Despite the last-minute approach, Kudus expressed his firm decision to join West Ham.
Kudus, expressing his enthusiasm, stated, "Since I was a child, I've dreamed of playing in a league like this. This moment is a realization of that dream, and I am elated to be a part of it. However, this is just the beginning for me; I am committed to pushing forward and giving my best."
Donning the No. 14 jersey, Kudus, who demonstrated his talent by scoring four goals in six Champions League group-stage matches for Ajax last season, revealed his eagerness to entertain fans and contribute to the team's success. "I'm here to give my all, aid the team, and fight for the badge. I can't wait to get started," he remarked.
West Ham manager David Moyes expressed his anticipation for collaborating with Kudus, recognizing the midfielder's achievements and potential. Moyes stated, "We're thrilled to have Mohammed join West Ham United. He's an exceptional young talent, having showcased his abilities at the highest level in the Champions League and amassing substantial experience with over 150 senior appearances at just 23 years old."
Moyes went on to commend the club's efforts in securing the signing, attributing the achievement to the club's growing reputation and appeal. "This acquisition underscores West Ham's increasing stature, with credit due to the board and Tim Steidten, the technical director, for their efforts in making this happen."
Kudus concluded his tenure at Ajax with a memorable performance, netting a hat-trick in the Europa League play-off first leg against Ludogorets, contributing to Ajax's 4-1 victory. The match marked his farewell appearance for the Dutch club as he embarks on a new chapter with West Ham United.
