Haruna Muntari Embraces AI Tools In Graphic Design

You see them around every day. Flyers, banners, posters, billboards. The creative pieces that communicate to many at a time.

And the creative minds behind them are Graphic Designers who spend hours getting inspiration for each unique design. Now with the emergence of artificial intelligence, lots of things are changing. Jobs used to be done manually are now facing the grasp of AI due to time and cost.

And the graphic design industry is not left out.

An Accra-based Graphic Designer, Haruna Muntari tells 3Music TV Editorial how Artificial Intelligence is penetrating the industry by either assisting or robbing them.

“AI speeds up our works. Design ideas that we used to take like two days to do, with good prompt you can take at least two hours to get creative designs or ideas to work on. So AI has rather speed up our works in our design process. So very helpful. So AI is more like an intern to a graphic designer or the creatives.”

He also mentioned that AI makes the design process more efficient by doing some works that usually takes hours to do.

“So it helps us in maybe removing backgrounds. Minutes that you'll be spending in removing background like AI helps us to do that efficiently and easily. So it's just assisting us.”

Seeing corporate bodies and individuals using AI designs for their products and businesses, we asked Haruna what he thinks about them.

“With AI designs, it doesn't feel very original. Or to use AI for your complete project, clients prefer something original. So even though AI can help you get an idea. But with the creative, we turn those ideas to original results. So we don't lose clients over AI. We rather improve from what the AI gives us. One, it feels cheap,” he said.

“Also, I feel disappointed when it's coming from a reputable brand. You understand? Recently I saw a new company trying to bring out their products. And with the creative designs, they are using are assets from AI. So first impression is the product is cheap. I feel disappointed when I see brands trying to use AI or using AI in their complete workflow.”

Haruna Muntari also weighed in on the conversation about Artificial Intelligence taking some jobs in the future. According to him, AI will rather help save time and create specific jobs opportunities.

He also advised creative on how to stay competitive in the evolving industry by learning how to prompt.

“I think there will be an aspect where creatives will have to learn about prompting. Because getting something done very well is more like prompting it,” he said.

“It's just more about prompting. So I think creatives should spend more time learning how to prompt. And learning how to control the AI agent. And bringing out results. And that can be another aspect of a job. So I feel like in the next 5 years, it will be more like another aspect of a creative job,” he added.
