KiDi Reveals 40 Songs Were Recorded Before Settling On 15 For New Album

KiDi has disclosed that he and his team had about 40 songs to choose from before settling on the 15 tracks featured on his latest album, Where Do We Go From Here.

The musician revealed the scale of the recording process during an interview on the Big Convo segment of Culture Daily on 3Music TV and Pluzz 89.9FM.

According to KiDi, the album was about four years in the making, with the recording process producing enough material for what he described as potentially three albums.

“We had about 40 songs for this album,” he said.

He explained that selecting the final 15 tracks was therefore one of the most difficult parts of completing the project.

KiDi credited his manager, Sniper, for helping to shape the final tracklist.

The album features collaborations with artists including Sarkodie and Ara-B, while Jackie was involved through backing vocals on “Special Loving."

KiDi said he deliberately chose not to fill the album with major international collaborations because he wanted the project to re-establish his identity after a decade in the music industry.

“All those things are a matter of time,” he said in response to questions about international features.

“I wanted to use this album to re-establish KiDi.”

He described the project as a new beginning, saying he was approaching the next phase of his career as though he were starting from the ground up.

The album explores different sounds and perspectives, including highlife, lovers rock, reggae, and other influences.

KiDi said the project also contains songs that explore aspects of his life and experiences in ways that are sometimes subtle.

He singled out Crazy World as the opening track because it establishes the album’s central reflection on life, growth, and the uncertainty of the journey ahead.

He also discussed Bad Things, a song from his earlier Golden Boy project, as one of the records that made him feel particularly proud of his songwriting.

For Where Do We Go From Here, KiDi said the goal was to create a body of work that would mark a new era before he moved on to the next stage of his career.

The musician is also preparing for a concert in London on 24 September, with tickets already on sale, according to the interview.
