Rocky Dawuni Talks Global Roots and New Music with a Mission
Rocky Dawuni

Rocky Dawuni, Ghana’s reggae luminary, sat down with 3Music TV’s Big Conversation, and man, did he bring the vibes. Fresh off a plane from Paris, Rocky shared stories from his whirlwind musical journey, from performing in Greenland to filming a video in Brazil’s Bahia, the heart of Black culture in South America. The guy’s been everywhere—literally. He’s played gigs in places most of us only see on maps, like Iceland and India, and even met the Indian prime minister to talk culture. But what stood out was his passion for using music to stitch together African heritage with the global diaspora.

Rocky’s latest track, I Got a Song, featuring Bob Marley’s daughter Cedella Marley, dropped today, and it’s already sparking excitement. Inspired by a tour in Australia where he connected with Aboriginal communities, Rocky explained how their “song lines”—ancient melodies that map out geography and survival tips—shaped the song’s core. “Music’s not just sound,” he said, eyes lighting up. “It’s a map, a spirit, a way to connect across generations.” The video, shot in Ghana’s mountains and Miami, is set to premiere in a week on Cedella’s livestream, promising a visual celebration of global unity.

What makes Rocky tick isn’t fame or flashy cars—it’s mission. He’s all about carrying Ghana’s DNA, its rhythms and stories, to every corner of the world. From the streets of Bahia, where Yoruba traditions thrive, to Greenland’s unexpected reggae fanbase mobbing him at the airport, Rocky’s music is a bridge. He’s not chasing viral hits, but he’s got a challenge for fans: stream I Got a Song and post it on Instagram with his name. “Let’s make it a 24-hour economy,” he laughed, urging everyone to vibe with the message. With his Grammy-nominated career still soaring, Rocky’s proof you can stay true to your roots and still rock the world.
