U.S. singer Chris Brown was granted bail by a London court, set at £5 million, following his arrest in Manchester on May 15, 2025, for an alleged assault in a London nightclub in February 2023. The charges stem from an incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, where Brown allegedly attacked music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle, causing grievous bodily harm.
Initially denied bail on May 16, Brown was released after a hearing at Southwark Crown Court, where Judge Tony Baumgartner stipulated that £4 million of the bail be paid immediately, with an additional £1 million due within seven days. Brown was not present at the hearing but was represented by his legal team.
The bail conditions allow Brown to proceed with his Breezy Bowl XX world tour, which begins in Amsterdam on June 8, 2025, and includes UK dates in Manchester, London, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Glasgow between June 15 and July 3. To ensure compliance, Brown must surrender his passport when not traveling for tour purposes, reside at a court-approved address, avoid contact with Diaw, and refrain from visiting Tape nightclub.
The £5 million security fee serves as a financial guarantee to ensure Brown’s return to court, with the risk of forfeiture if conditions are breached. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 20, 2025, alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, also charged in the incident.
The alleged assault involved Brown striking Diaw multiple times with a bottle in what prosecutors described as an “unprovoked attack,” captured on CCTV and deemed “extremely serious.” Brown, who has a history of legal issues, including a 2009 assault on Rihanna and a 2023 civil claim by Diaw for $16 million, has not yet entered a plea.
Posts on social media reflect public interest, with some users noting Brown’s Instagram comment, “From the cage to the stage!” after his release, indicating his intent to continue performing. The case remains ongoing, with Brown’s legal troubles continuing to draw significant attention.
