Netflix is set to debut FOREVER, a contemporary adaptation of Judy Blume’s groundbreaking 1975 novel, on May 8th, 2025. Developed by acclaimed producer Mara Brock Akil (Girlfriends, Being Mary Jane), the series reimagines the timeless tale of first love, centering on two Black teenagers navigating their relationship in 2018 Los Angeles.
The story follows Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone), a confident track star, and Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.), a basketball player with a thoughtful demeanor. As they experience the milestones of young love, the series delves into themes of identity, intimacy, and the complexities of growing up.
Joining Akil in bringing this narrative to life is Oscar-winning actress Regina King, who serves as an executive producer and directs the pilot episode. The ensemble cast also features Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Xosha Roquemore, and Barry Shabaka Henley.
FOREVER is part of Akil’s overall deal with Netflix and aims to present a fresh perspective on adolescent love and self-discovery. The series will be available for streaming exclusively on Netflix starting May 8th.
